Open Source Award 2010

Packt Publishing announced the finalists of the Open Source Award for 2010, which is the best open-source (thus distributed with GPL license) for the current year. They identified six major categories with several candidates:

Open Source Award 2010

  • Open Source CMS Award: CMS Made Simple, MODx, mojoPortal, SilverStripe, XOOPS
  • Hall of Fame CMS: Drupal, Joomla, WordPress


  • Most Promising Open Source Project: BuddyPress, LiveStreet CMS, Pimcore, Tomato CMS, WolfCMS
  • Open Source E-Commerce Applications: Magento, nopCommerce, OpenCart, PrestaShop, TomatoCart
  • Open Source JavaScript Libraries: Toolkit Dojo, Ext JS, jQuery, Mootools, Raphael
  • Open Source Graphics Software: Blender, Gimp, Inkscape, jMonkeyEngine, Scribus

The vote by the people (open until November 5) contribute, together with the opinion of a commission to determine the winners, who will share the prize money of $ 24,000. Packt Publishing also chose a name among all voters, who will receive a gift an Amazon Kindle, an eBook reader that is manufactured by Amazon. The winners will be announced November 15.
